Born in Douala, Cameroon in a musical family, he moved to France in the early sixties.
Jean Dikoto is a professional bass player since 1967 and he has accompanied famous artists, like Manu Dibango, T. Bone Walker, Al Singer, Claude Francois etc.
Jean Dikoto is also a composer, singer and arranger. He recorded for a number of labels since he lived in Paris: "Muna Munenge" (RCA Records); "Sunday Afternoon", "Ba Nololo Basau", "Looking For Love" & "Songo Esele" (Phonogram Philips). He was already a confirmed artist in France before he moved to London, GB.
In 1973 Jean Dikoto Mandengué arrived in England, where he joined the Afro-Rock group OSIBISA and signed the biggest contracts of his career with Buddah Records and Warner Bross.
Jean Dikoto still plays with OSIBISA (in 1999 they toured in Ghana), but he also plays with other bands, like ROBIN HEMINGWAY & HIS BLACKRIDERS ORCHESTRA in Germany. Hemingway produced the last CD of T. Bone Walker "Good Feeling", Jean Dikoto played the bass guitar. T. Bone Walker received several awards & a Grammy for the best blues album of that time.
Jean Dikoto Mandengué lives now in the Netherlands, where he played with the dutch band DEEP BUSH and also with the AFRO ROOTS BAND.
Jean Dikoto just recorded a new CD, with his own compositions in the U.S.A.: "Put Your Gun Down".
